25yo school counselor arrested after she attempts lewd assault on student
A private school counselor, 25 years old, at $20k per year South Carolina day school lost her job and was arrested after confessing to performing lewd activity with an underage student, according to the police officials.
A statement from the Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office alleges the counselor Kenleigh Prendergast of having an illicit relationship with an underaged student.
The age of the student is not disclosed but is estimated to be 16 or 17. The relationship began in January, and it was reported on March 25.
Prendergast was hired as a school counselor in August 2017.
She admitted to texting, calling or doing Facetime to the victim during the school day and after the school was closed, this later lead to a private meeting at her home and private counseling.
“It was disclosed that the suspect and victim would text, call, or Facetime during the school day as well as after school hours and eventually began to meet outside of school at the suspect’s private counseling practice and residence,” reads the statement.
The alleged relationship ended few days before the arrest happened.
She was charged with lewd assault battery.
The school, which charges parents up to $10k per year for the counseling, announced her dismissal upon her arrest.
“Effective immediately, Ms. Prendergast’s employment with the school has been terminated.”
“SDS puts the safety and well-being of our students above all things, and will cooperate fully with the Sheriff’s Office throughout this process,” the school said.
According to her online profile on ‘Psychology Today’, she is a licensed marriage and family therapist.
Her profile’s bio says: “I have several years of experience working in a variety of school environments, and have developed a passion for working with teens struggling with anxiety, depression, low self-esteem/confidence and difficult life transitions.”
According to the officials, the investigation is ongoing.
