Could men be taking PILL soon? Research says once a daily tablet is enough
Men could be taking birth pills very soon and this has been depicted by a recent research according to which the scientists have found a new PILL for the male gender. An experimental oral contraceptive shows the promise. The pill works like the female counterpart and can be taken once a day to keep its purpose aligned for the next 24 hours.
The result of the pill is that the men will not be able to get their partners pregnant. The researchers from the University of Washington in Seattle tested the pill and the control group constituted 83men aged between 18 and 50 years of age. The drug was taken for 28 days and after that blood samples were taken, at the highest dose of the medicine the men showed a reduced level of testosterone. The related hormones were suppressed.
Dr Strphanie, the professor of medicine at the University of Washington said that the lower levels of testosterone were consistent with the dosage of the pill. According to further comments, these levels are rare to achieve with consistent results, thus showing greater promises for the future.
The pill has been named as dimethandrolone undecanoate. A further detailed study of the results showed that the men didn’t suffer from liver inflammation as inflicted by the previous version of the pills. Rare cases of acne and mild weight gain were the only side effects seen in the participants of the control group.
DMAU is a major step forward in the development of a once-daily ‘male pill, said the study’s lead investigator
Many men are going to prefer this quick procedure of intaking the pill rather than opting in for other treatments. The female pill is used by more than 100 million women worldwide. The researchers had been trying to develop a male pill for years.
